Darren Moore was sacked despite an impressive record
The 44-year-old was one of the few high-profile BAME managers in English football, and Durham suggests the decision to sack him carries subconscious racial undertones.Read the passionate rant in full:“I’m not saying anyone involved in making this decision is in any way racist. It’s an issue that deserves deep thinking, not knee-jerk nonsense,” Durham began.“I believe in their mind’s eye, nobody could picture Darren Moore being so successful at West Brom because there are so few black managers who have been successful – because there are so few black managers in English football.“All they see is white manager lifting trophies season after season, therefore there is a subliminal unconscious mindset that only white is successful. “This is going to be a hard thing for a lot of people to take on board, but over the last ten years only two black managers have been successful in terms of promotion.“Did anyone at West Brom genuinely feel confident in Darren Moore?“The analysis gets even more damning. The West Brom board’s statement said Moore had ‘failed to achieve consistency of form and results’.“West Brom have won eight of their last ten away games. How can he be sacked with that run?“They’re talking rubbish. My opinion was they didn’t want to appoint him in the first place, but he was so good at the end of last season that they had to appoint him.“So at the first sign of someone moaning, they’ve sacked him, and they could not wait to sack him.“The West Brom fans had been complaining about Tony Pulis for months and months and months before he was sacked. They lost seven of their last nine games in the 2016/17 season and he still hung on until that November when they were twelve games without a win!“Alan Pardew came in, didn’t win any of his first eight games and oversaw a relentless charge towards relegation and took his players on a jolly to Spain when they nicked a taxi and got drunk until the early hours.“There were all sorts of unprofessional allegations under Pardew and he STILL didn’t get the sack after that!“It took a run of eight defeats on the trot when they were ten points adrift [of safety] with six games left when they finally sacked the hopeless, clueless Alan Pardew.“And yet this guy, Darren Moore, the guy whose tactical brilliance saw them beat Spurs, win away at Manchester United, get a draw against a Liverpool side that was rampant at the time.“His side beat Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds 4-1, they won at Norwich, they won at Sheffield United, they put seven past QPR, he’s been sacked after two defeats and a draw!

“We will never know if West Brom would have got promoted under Darren Moore.“It took months to sack the two white managers who were laying the foundations for CERTAIN relegation and yet the black manager who won more than half his league games in charge of West Brom is sacked after a run of two defeats and a draw.“If this isn’t an example of what John Barnes was talking about, I do not know what is.“It’s the most disgusting sacking of recent times, it’s incredibly damaging to the fight for more respect and opportunity for black coaches and managers in English football and the decision makers at West Brom should be ashamed of themselves.“The managerial revolving door does apply to everyone, I get that, but it does seem to speed up for black managers, doesn’t it?“Darren Moore’s sacking is massively, massively out of order.”
