Messi’s second strike, which also brought up goal No.600 in his Barca career, wowed all sorts of football fans, particularly Lineker.Lineker has made it clear his huge admiration for the Argentine numerous times and he was filmed hardly able to contain his excitement when Messi fired the 30-yard free-kick beyond Alisson Becker.Unsurprisingly, Liverpool fans didn’t appreciate the strike as much as others because it left their team with a mountain to climb for the second leg at Anfield on Tuesday. Some Kopites have even signed a petition to give Messi a retrospective ban as replays suggest he was lucky to get the free-kick in the first place because he actually fouled Fabinho.McDermott didn’t make any reference to whether it should have been a free-kick but got his reservations about Lineker’s antics off his chest when speaking to Georgie Bingham and Tony Cascarino on Weekend Sports Breakfast. He said: I tell you what was harsh, watching Gary Lineker jumping up and down when they [Barcelona] scored the third goal.McDermott wasn’t impressed with the way Lineker celebrated Messi’s goalBT Sport3

“I thought that was a bit poor really.Hes normally a nice fella but he got a bit carried away there. I can understand with Rio [Ferdinand] because hes ex-Manchester United but thats the way it is.The result leaves the Reds’ hopes of reaching a second successive Champions League final in tatters. But McDermott believes it’s not over yet and claimed that if Liverpool can put in a good performance then ‘you never know’. He added: Ok they [Liverpool] didnt score on Wednesday but I still honestly think if they can get a goal or two early on Tuesday then you just never know after that. Its disappointing because they didnt deserve to be beaten anyway and I thought they played brilliantly on the night.“Never scored which is unusual but if they can do that performance at Anfield you never know.Im not going to say theyre going to win it but theyve got a chance.”Listen to the full interview with Terry McDermott on Weekend Sports Breakfast above!McDermott (right) won the European Cup three times with Liverpool and doesn’t think his old club should be written off just yet3
