West Ham United transfers: Hammers closing in on club-record move for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez – reports
West Ham United are set to break their record transfer fee for the third time in seven months with the 50million signing of Maxi Gomez, according to reports. The Celta Vigo striker has been linked with a move to the East End throughout the transfer window, but it is understood the club are prepared to meet the 43.2million release clause.Gomez is a full Uruguay international1

The Hammers held initial talks with the Uruguay international in the summer, but were priced out of a move. However, talks have progressed well this month and ,according to Sky Sports, a deal has been proposed which would see the 22-year-old loaned back to Celta until the end of the season. The club are just one point and one place above the relegation zone in LaLiga, so getting the starlet back for what remains of the season will be seen as a massive positive. It is understood the club still want to push ahead with the deal, despite Marko Arnautovic committing his future to the Premier League side. The 29-year-old was linked with a move to the Chinese Super League, but no clubs matched West Ham’s valuation.Despite this news, the Hammers are still pushing ahead with a move for Gomez and a deal could well be completed before Thursday’s deadline. The powerful striker has been compared to compatriot Luis Suarez and has also been linked with moves to Barcelona in the past.
